Having been a teacher for many years I was quite familiar with the term, “Those that can’t, teach.” This is supposedly referring to individuals that can’t seem to master the subject matter that they are instructing others in. Thankfully in the case of Cesco Emmanuel this has never been the case. Emmanuel is the guitarist for KOBO TOWN and has been with the group since their earliest beginnings in 2005. “I met Drew (Gonsalves) in 2005 and soon after that the band had their first gig at Clinton’s. I have been with them ever since”, Emmanuel remembers. Although he did not record on the group’s first studio project, “Independence” the native of Trinidad and Tobago did play a big part in the seminal sound of KOBO TOWN’s 2013 JUNO Award nominated “Jumbie in the Jukebox.” Emmanuel’s guitar work and composition was a major influence on the album. He will also be recording on the upcoming KOBO TOWN album, “Where the Galleons Sank” which will afford the well-respected musician an even broader musical canvas on which to create.
Emmanuel bides his time between Trinidad and Tobago and Canada and admits he feels like a nomad at times but his love for teaching music and guitar to others is the inspirational force that keeps him motivated. Emmanuel’s mission of music is so strong that he has even conducted classes by SKYPE. He will be joining KOBO TOWN on their 2014 tour of Canada and the United States and the guitarist is excited about the opportunity to deliver a fresh set of songs and sounds to those lucky enough to catch the group in action this summer.
