Not much is known about the tiny Caribbean nation of Grenada. It sits basking in the sun just Northwest of Trinidad and Tobago. It is affectionately nicknamed "Island of Spice" because of the large amount of nutmeg and mace produced by its people. Grenada is one of the world's largest exporters of these crops. It's population of 110,000 is a mixture of different cultures and interests that keeps the island a colorful and vibrant spectacle. One of Grenada's native sons is Don Stewart who is touring and recording with KOBO TOWN as their bassist.
Stewart has been gigging with KOBO TOWN off and on for nearly two years and has brought an incredible foundation and rhythm to the group's music. Most bass players can be seen plying their wares with a four string electric bass on stage but going to a KOBO TOWN show the casual fan will see Stewart using a 6-stringed Ibanez bass. "I enjoy the six string because it allows for easier movement and fingerings up and down the fret board," offered the Toronto based musician.
Although Stewart did not record on KOBO TOWN's first two albums "Independence" (2006) and "Jumbie in the Jukebox" (2013) he is recording on their third studio effort, "Where the Galleons Sank," due out later this year. Stewart comes from a very musical environment and growing up in Grenada he was captured by the influences of Gordon Sumner, better known to the musical world as Sting of the Police. In addition to the bass Stewart plays guitar, drums and keyboards.
